WHY TRANSLATOR.IM

An English to Spanish translator that sounds like a person, not a phrasebook.

Built on frontier translation models tuned for natural, neutral Spanish that travels well across Latin America and Spain. No stilted word-for-word output - just Spanish that reads the way it is actually spoken.

Frontier model accuracy

Modern AI that understands idioms, register and context across paragraphs - not single sentences in isolation. It knows when 'you' should be tú, usted or ustedes.

Context-aware translation

Accents, ñ and ¿¡ done right

Tildes (á, é, í, ó, ú, ü), the ñ and the opening question and exclamation marks all render correctly. Output is ready to paste into Word, Pages, Notion or Google Docs.

Unicode-clean output

Speak English, hear Spanish

Switch to Voice mode and just talk - your browser's speech recognition (Chrome, Edge or Safari) types your English for you. Tap Listen to hear the Spanish read aloud if your device has a Spanish voice. Handy at a market stall in Oaxaca or a tapas bar in Seville.

Voice in · Listen out

Image & screenshot OCR

Upload, drop or paste a photo or screenshot of English menus, signs, slides or forms. The text is recognised in your browser, you can tweak it, and the Spanish translation comes back as editable text.

In-browser OCR

Neutral or regional Spanish

Defaults to neutral Latin American Spanish that reads well everywhere. Ask for 'Mexican', 'Argentinian' or 'Castilian Spanish' to tune for a specific market.

TIPS

Tips for better English to Spanish translation.

Three small habits that make AI translation feel hand-written.

  1. Tell us tú or usted

Spanish has different 'you' forms - tú (casual), usted (formal) and ustedes (plural). Add 'casual' or 'formal' to your request and the model will pick the right one. For most Latin America, ustedes covers both 'you all' situations - we avoid vosotros unless you specifically ask for Spain Castilian.

  2. Mention the country if it matters

Spanish is wonderfully regional - a 'computer' is computadora in Mexico but ordenador in Spain. If your text targets one country, just say 'translate for Mexico' or 'Castilian Spanish for Spain' and the vocabulary will follow.

  3. Keep names and brand terms as-is

Names of people, products and places usually stay in English. translator.im will keep them intact - so 'Notion', 'Spotify' and 'New York' do not get translated into something strange.

FAQ

Questions about English to Spanish translation.

Is the English to Spanish translator free?
Yes. Translating English to Spanish is free - up to 10 translations a day, with no sign-up or account. Each request takes up to 5,000 characters, and the Image and Voice modes in the same box are free too.
How accurate is the English to Spanish translation?
Output is produced by frontier translation models with paragraph-level context, so most everyday content reads as if a bilingual person wrote it. For literary, legal or medical content we recommend a quick review by a native Spanish speaker.
Does it use Latin American or Castilian Spanish?
By default the output is neutral Latin American Spanish that reads naturally everywhere - we use ustedes instead of vosotros and avoid country-specific slang. Add 'Castilian Spanish' or a country name (Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Spain) to your request and the vocabulary and register will adapt.
Does it produce correct accents, ñ and ¿¡ marks?
Yes. Every tilde (á, é, í, ó, ú, ü), every ñ and every opening question or exclamation mark (¿ ¡) is output correctly in Unicode. You can paste straight into any modern app or document.
Can I translate English PDFs and Word documents into Spanish?
Not yet - there is no PDF or Word upload. Copy the text from your file and paste it in (up to 5,000 characters per request, so translate long files section by section), or screenshot a page and use Image mode to read and translate it. That approach works well for school assignments, contracts and pitch decks.
Can I translate signs and menus from a photo?
Yes. Switch to Image mode and upload, drop or paste a photo or screenshot (PNG, JPG, WEBP, GIF or BMP). The English text is recognised right in your browser, you can fix any misread words, and then you get the Spanish translation as text. Handy for restaurant menus in CDMX or Buenos Aires, road signs in Spain, and product packaging. Clear printed text works best; handwriting and decorative fonts are hit-and-miss.
Does it handle slang and song lyrics?
Yes. It will translate reggaeton lyrics, telenovela dialogue and casual TikTok captions in a natural way rather than literally. For very region-specific slang, mention the country and the model will pick equivalents that actually sound right.
Do I need an account to use the English to Spanish translator?
No. There is no sign-up, login or install - open the page and start translating, with 10 free translations a day. For how translation requests are handled, see our privacy policy.
Can I translate from Spanish back to English?
Yes. Use our dedicated Spanish to English translator for a Spanish-source experience with phrases and tips tuned for that direction.
