TIPS

Tips for better English to Marathi translation.

Three small habits that make AI-translated Marathi feel like it was written by a Maharashtrian.

  1. Remember Marathi is not Hindi

Marathi shares the Devanagari script with Hindi, but the grammar, verb endings, gender system and a lot of vocabulary are different. Tell the translator 'into Marathi' explicitly - and don't paste Hindi expecting it to pass as Marathi. नमस्कार is the natural greeting, not नमस्ते.

  2. Specify formal vs. informal

Marathi has clear तू / तुम्ही / आपण levels. For business letters, prefix with 'Translate to formal Marathi' to get the aadaraarthi 'तुम्ही' / 'आपण'. For family WhatsApp, ask for 'casual Marathi' to get 'तू'.

  3. Keep names and brand terms in English

Names of people, products, companies and places usually stay in English (or transliterated into Devanagari). translator.im will keep them intact unless you ask for romanised Marathi specifically.

FAQ

Questions about English to Marathi translation.

Is the English to Marathi translator free?
Yes. Translating English to Marathi is free - up to 10 translations a day, with no sign-up or account. Each request takes up to 5,000 characters, and the Image and Voice modes in the same box are free too.
How is Marathi different from Hindi if they use the same script?
Marathi and Hindi both use Devanagari, but they are separate languages with different vocabulary, grammar and culture. Marathi has the extra letter ळ, a distinct gender system (including neuter), unique verb endings and many words that come from Sanskrit, Prakrit or Konkani roots rather than Hindi-Urdu. translator.im is tuned to produce real Marathi - not Hindi in Marathi clothing.
Does it output proper Devanagari including ळ?
Yes. All output is Unicode Devanagari with full support for Marathi-specific characters like ळ, plus conjuncts (जोडाक्षरे), matras and anusvaara. It will paste cleanly into Word, Google Docs, Notion or any modern app.
Can it produce formal (aadaraarthi) Marathi for official documents?
Yes. Add 'translate to formal Marathi' or 'for a government letter' before your English text and the output will use the respectful आपण / तुम्ही register suitable for Mantralaya forms, school circulars and business correspondence.
Can I translate English PDFs and Word documents into Marathi?
Not yet - there is no PDF or Word upload. Copy the text from your file and paste it in (up to 5,000 characters per request, so translate long files section by section), or screenshot a page and use Image mode to read and translate it.
Can I translate signs and menus from a photo?
Yes. Switch to Image mode and upload, drop or paste a photo or screenshot (PNG, JPG, WEBP, GIF or BMP). The English text is recognised right in your browser, you can fix any misread words, and then you get the Marathi translation as text. Handy for restaurant menus in Pune, road signs across Maharashtra and product packaging. Clear printed text works best; handwriting and decorative fonts are hit-and-miss.
Does it understand Maharashtrian cultural terms like 'modak' or 'puran poli'?
Yes. Cultural and culinary terms - modak, puran poli, vada pav, misal, Ganpati, Shivaji Maharaj, lavani - are kept as proper names rather than awkwardly translated, the way a bilingual Maharashtrian would handle them.
Do I need an account to use the English to Marathi translator?
No. There is no sign-up, login or install - open the page and start translating, with 10 free translations a day. For how translation requests are handled, see our privacy policy.
Can I translate from Marathi back to English?
Yes. Use our dedicated Marathi to English translator for a Marathi-source experience with phrases and tips tuned for that direction.
